Comic books… at the library?

Yes! You can often find comic trade paperbacks and graphic novels at your local library.

There are lots of excellent reasons to stop by your local library to see what’s available:

  • new to comics and don’t know where to start
  • low on cash
  • shelf space is running low
  • want to try something new
  • like hanging out at the library

As an added bonus, a lot of libraries have an inter-library loan program, so if your local library doesn’t have a copy, they might be able to get it from a neighboring one.  Personally, I use the Manchester City Library  for both books and graphic novels.  I can request items through the catalog search online and it usually only take a couple days for them to come in.  Currently they have titles such as American Vampire, Sandman, Persepolis and Joe the Barbarian.

Additionally, librarians can be an excellent resource for finding quality reading. For example, the Young Adult Library Services Association put out a list of Great Graphic Novels for Teens.

So the next time you’re looking for something to read, don’t overlook your local town library.
